Red Cross Health and Safety Classes

Learn Life-saving skills – from the experts!  Each year, an average of more than 9 million people gain the skills they need to prepare for and respond to emergencies through American Red Cross training. Get engaged. Get certified. Get inspired – while learning an important new skill. The Putnam County YMCA offers several course options to meet various training needs, including, Lifeguarding, CPR, CPR for the Professional Responder and Health Care Provider, First Aid and more. Group training is also available for companies and organizations.

Lifeguard Instructor Training

The cost is $300 for a 30-hour course and requires you to be currently certified in Lifeguarding / CPR / AED / FA

Lifeguard Trainings

The cost is $225. This includes a 35 hour training. It also requires potential candidates to complete pre-requisite skills before entering into the course.

Lifeguard Recertification

The cost is $100. This is for any currently certified Lifeguard to be recertified in their skills. Lifeguards must complete the pre-requisite skills and all lifeguarding skills to complete this course.

Lifeguard Classes

All lifeguard classes will be done in a blended format. All of the pre-requisitions will be done before the first class and must be done by appointment.  Bookwork and videos will be done online and the skills will be done in person.

Lifeguard Classes are $225. Participants must be 15 years old. They must also complete a 300 yd swim, 10lb brick test and 2 minutes of treading water to be accepted into the lifeguarding class.

Lifeguard Recertification

Lifeguard Recertification will be done with some online content. This will be communicated with the participants once they enroll in the class. The dates above are in-person skill sessions.

Recertification participants must hold a current lifeguard certification. Recertification classes are $100; $50 for current employees of the Putnam County YMCA.
